It's just occurred to me that in few days, we won't only be starting a new year, but actually a new decade. We will be able to autoritatively talk about "the 20 hundreds" ; unless someone comes up with a better way to refer to the years between 2000 and 2009 ; speaking of which, what did they do in 1910 ?

What did I do last 10 years ? Many things, way too many.... This said, considering that in 2010 alone I will earn more money than during the previous 10 years together (admitedly most of it spent being a student), all I did must have been usefull, ... in some materialistic kind of way. I also met with, literally, hundreds of people (most of them nice and clever), with whom I haven't kept in touch (which might actually be a good thing otherwise Facebook would need to be renamed after me...) and speaking of people I really should not have slept with so many girls. I learnt English and started to learn few asian languages. I bought my first laptop computer and learnt networks, software design and programming on my spare time (and wrote a Front Office application, Hypercube -- quasi OS, in my previous job). I got engaged in Paris, and then married in the UK (not with the same girl). I saw more than 500 movies at the cinema and cried during most than half of them. At university, I discovered some of the most beautiful mathematics ever invented (or thought of, depending on which side of Platonism you stand on), I also taught mathematics and loved being a teacher. I almost finished a PhD in Probabilistic Model Checking, then fell into the dark side of the Force: started to work in Finance.

What can I wish for myself for the next 10 years ? Three things. Only 3 things.

1. Find the job I am actually made for. None of the jobs I have had so far utilized my true skills. If I don't do this, I will spend the next 10 years being well paid but also getting bored.
2. That someone comes up with a laptop battery which lasts long enough so I don't have to worry, or even to think, about it.
3. Total high speed wireless internet coverage, every single square inch of land covered, world wide.

nb: Item 3. was initially "Free of charge total high speed wireless internet coverage ...", but "naivety" is one of the things I lost during the 20 hundreds.
