Once you have all your material needs taken care of, there are then very few things in life that can elevate your level of happiness. One of those things is contributing to a cause larger than yourself. With great fortune comes great responsibility. We have all won the lottery of life. And the question becomes: how do we discharge that responsibility.

This is probably what Aubrey thinks in the morning when she goes to work, and the reason why I think that university research/teaching is one of the best job in the world. (And yes, this is true even if, and above all if, you are scientist or mathematician.)
